Why the Boeing 737 MAX-8?

The Boeing 737 MAX programme was launched in December 2011 in response to growing demand for more economical and modern narrow-body aircraft. The most significant change in this new generation is the CFM International LEAP‑1B engines, which deliver approximately 13% lower fuel consumption and significantly lower noise levels compared with the previous 737 NG series.
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 made its maiden flight on 29 January 2016 and entered commercial service in May 2017. Externally, the aircraft is distinguished by modified wings with an increased wingspan of 35.9 m, featuring characteristic split-tip winglets that improve aerodynamics and reduce drag. New engine nacelles with chevrons, previously seen on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, have also been introduced, which further reduces noise.
The base MAX 8 version, compared to the Boeing 737-800, offers a range increased by approximately 1,000 km and a higher maximum take-off weight, which required reinforcement of the fuselage and landing gear structures.
The 737 MAX family currently comprises four main variants: the MAX 7, MAX 8, MAX 9 and MAX 10, as well as the MAX 8‑200 version created specifically for Ryanair.
According to the latest data from 2026, Boeing has delivered over 2,360 units of the 737 MAX, and the total number of orders exceeds 4,800. Production takes place at the facilities in Renton and Everett (North Line), where Boeing is increasing the assembly rate to 47 aircraft per month, with a plan to reach 52 per month in the coming years.
The 737 MAX family remains one of Boeing's key pillars in the narrow-body passenger aircraft segment, competing directly with the Airbus A320neo.
