The aircraft was flown on 22 February 1987 and a year later made its first commercial flight in Air France colours on 28 March 1988. The Airbus A320 is the base model of the A318, A319 and A321 aircraft. As of the end of 2012, more than 5,400 A320 family aircraft had been produced.
In 2010, work began on the successor to the A320 family, the Airbus A320neo, with deliveries starting in 2016. The first-generation aircraft was marketed as the A320ceo at the time, with production ending in 2019.
